Mayo Fine Gael TD, John O’Mahony, understands that this unit will be based at Claremorris Garda Station it will consist of two sergeants and ten gardai who are equipped and trained specially to deal with serious crime in the region.

According to Deputy O’Mahony, the announcement of the new Unit is imminent and it is expected to come within a matter of days. “It’s a great boost for Claremorris to have the administrative wing of such a high profile and effective unit based in the town. This is an important development in the fight against crime in this region” he said.

This new unit will deal with serious and organised crime which rose dramatically last year, while also providing support to unarmed, frontline Gardaí in dangerous situations.
