Drink driving ban
Hi, I am looking for some information about a drink driving ban which my sister in laws ex partner got for driving while drunk, he was banned for 7 years and yet continues to drive, I am very frustrated about this but he was aggressive while with my sister in law and I think she is afraid of him and as such is worried if she reports him to the Garda he will take it out on her, can she report him without giving her details and will he be told who made the report. thanks in advance

Drink driving ban
You can make a report but without either the Garda seeing it or a statement from someone willing to give evidence It wont proceed.
Put it another way, what would the evidence be in court? "Well Judgs, someone told me he drives but I cant tell you who nor will they come and tell you themselves". How would you feel getting convicted of a crime based on this evidence? Now, if you see him driving why dont you make a statement and it can go to court? Also as an aside, there are many sections, please post in the correct one. Information about Verification and website email. Please E-mail or PM to apply. |

My advice would be to write to the Sergeant in Charge of your local Traffic Corps. Give as much details as you can. Name, address, car reg, place of work, driving habit etc. It'll be like giving a dog a bone and I would reckon with good info he will be caught within two weeks of your letter. And you can remain nameless.....
"So you don't know how fast you were going. I guess that means I can write anything I want on the ticket, huh?" |

What he said . . . .give the local traffic corps a call . . . .tell them the name of the reporting person is to remain confidential and give as much info of his movements as possible . . . .so the lads can go intercept him themselves. We get such letters/ calls all the time . .its great. An Garda Síochána relies on the public for this kind of information to do its job . . .we cannot be everywhere or know everything so this kind of tip off is great. There will be no need to worry about the confidentiality. |
